Wagons Ho!

Oregon Trail Webquest

Wagons Ho!

Wagons Ho!  In the 1830s, the news of free land and free riches out west drew over 400,000 people.  Groups saddled their horses, packed their wagons, and traveled for months to the new frontier over 2,000 miles away.  Starting in the mid 1830s to 1869, travelers went by horse, wagon, and by foot. From farmers to businessmen, settlers to families, many journeyed from Missouri to Oregon through beautiful country but at times with adverse conditions.

Imagine putting all your belongings into a wagon and setting across the country with your family.  In this Webquest, through your readings and research, you will be able to answer the questions:

  1. What is the Oregon Trail?

  2. What types of supplies were needed to make the journey?

  3. What places did the they see on the frontier?

  4. What challenges did they encounter on the trail?

  5. If you could use technology or today’s knowledge from the fields of medicine, health, math, science, etc. and take back one thing that would actually work back in the days of pioneers traveling the Oregon Trail, what would it be?
